Azriel, The Angel of Destruction

1  Heaven is, predicted by God, at war.
Arch-Angels defend against Satan’s greed.
For two days the violence has caused disorder.
So unaware of His wrathful vengeance,
5  Defiantly ignorant of God’s strength,
Are Satan and his legion of Angels.
An Angel from his palace is summoned
To carry out a task, the Lord demands.
 Azriel, Angel of Destruction.
10  On his knees the Angel bowed, for he knew
The omnipotence of the Almighty.
“You may rise and rejoice,” said the Father.
“Today you shall ensure the departure
Of hostile, rebellious, godless beasts.
15  To the brow of Heaven we shall pursue
Pushing to drive them out from God and Bliss,
Into their place of punishment, the gulf
Of which you shall ready open and wide,
With fiery chaos to receive their fall.”
20  Azriel, confused, was taken aback,
Afraid, and insecure of this great deed.
Azriel asked the Father God humbly,
“Why not ask an Arch-Angel to perform
This task? I am not worthy of honoring
25  Such a responsibility, my Lord.
Nor can I break the Universe alone.”
The Lord then smiled with great satisfaction.
“My humble Azriel, I’ve chosen you
Because you think this way. You are the one.
30  You do not attempt to comprehend me.
Your ignorance of my totality
Causes you to fear that which is unknown.
All the wiser, you know that you don’t know.
Have faith, Trust that I am eternity.
35  Now listen close, this is what you must do.
With sword and spirit, a portal you’ll cut,
And through the fabric of My Universe
You’ll juxtapose a gap in existence.
Just as I create, you shall destroy it.
40  Remove all sense of order and create
An absence of light that’s so deafening,
So profound, emptiness shall consume all.
This black hole must not be what I am, nay.
Instead, devoid of all that I embrace.
45  I am omnipotent, feed it weakness.
I am omniscient, fill it’s depths with fear.
I am omnipresent, lack foundation.
This prison serves as a wasteful chaos
Of ruin for those who lack faith deserving
50  My Spirit. Once they fall, and the will fall,
Confusion will engulf them all with fear.
As they plunge to the deepest depths of Hell.”
Twas the moment the Angel understood
To defy the Spirit of existence.
55  His duty to make way for absolute
Darkness, disgust, and desolation. To
Form a monstrous, never-ending nightmare.
Hell, an ocean of invisible fire
As constant war with unquenchable woe
60  And pain. Azriel looked up, God had gone.
Quickly the Angel moved, its occupants
Soon were to be herded into the mouth,
Into the jaws, of this cavernous beast.
Finding himself at the gates of Heaven,
65  Azriel unsheathed his sword, while praying,
With faith in the blessing and strength of God.
Plunged his sword with all his might into an
Expanse of matter, just short of the gates.
And from the sword burst forth ward flames so bright,
70  So intense, fabrics of the Universe
Began to melt away. Existence gasped.
All of Heaven shook, Azriel was scared.
An entranceway was forming, the portal
Of eternal woe. The flames continued
75  To burn further and further on, deeper
And deeper, deeper than deep, down and down.
Ariel felt sensations of despair
Creeping into his soul. The energy
Required to create such an evil
80  Place, forced him all too close to pure chaos.
He thought to himself, I am a servant
Of God! I shall not leave his covenant.
I empower my resolve to create
Utter chaos. I won’t be defeated!
85  Into the pit he cast hatred, jealousy,
And pain; fear, suffering, and woe;
Chaos, misery, and horror.
Instead of flames, now came forth a billow
Of smoke. An awakened volcano chokes
90  On its own toxic breath. Ash falls upon
Azriel’s face as he watched impending
Doom, nesting itself at the farthest Reach
Of existence. Azriel was afraid
For the defiant. He wept for his foes.
95  Soon to be an eternal misery,
Monsters suffocating in the abyss,
Suffering, reduced, insignificant.
Alone in a whirlwind in a deafening
Expanse of ruin, regret, and riots.
100  Azriel destroyed the comfort of bliss,
Broke the divide from high knowledge and truths.
Widened the gap, deepened the wound, pushing
The outermost rings of the Universe.
Whose reaches will be too great to fathom
105  Absolute wisdom, thoughts, emotions, love.
With sword he continued blasting away,
At vacant patches of space and shuddered
Knowing full-well that no such torturous
And terrifying place has ever been.
110  Finally, into the expanse he threw
Precious stones and metals in the attempt
To hear the stones hit the bottomless pit.
They have yet to respond, Absorbed by the
Empty expanses of loss and despair.
115  When he finished, Azriel hid the mouth
And waited for its’ tenants to arrive.
The Angel rejoiced with tears of great pride,
For he knew that the Father would be pleased.
Beyond the breach, the eternal Kingdom
120  He could hear the shudder of a mountain,
As it was being shaken from its’ core.
Beneath his feet, he felt the foundation,
Heaven moaned as Angels battled Angels.
On his tongue he could taste the sulfurous
125  Fumes as the texture of presence dissolved
Into non-existence. The air around
Him carried the pervasive stench of a
Rebellion, who alongside Satan,
Too high aspired. Abruptly, Azriel
130  Was blinded by overwhelming brightness.
Ten thousand thunders from the hand of God
Glared lightning and shot forth pernicious fire,
Among the accursed that withered all their strength,
And of their lasted vigor left them drained,
135  Exhausted, spiritless, afflicted, fallen.
An expanse of the crystal that had
Protectively encompassed Heaven burst,
Followed by a parade of stampeding,
Exhaustively horrified creatures, no
140  Longer reminiscent of powerful
Angels, but of weeping shadow monsters.
Driven by terror, spiritlessly defeated
Threw themselves into the trap before them
So that they may escape the wrathful Son
145  Of God. The last thoughts of the fallen foes,
Were of regret and incomprehension.
Their predicament only to worsen,
They plunged into chaos and confusion.
Swallowed by the accursed damned they fell.
150  As the mouth to the entranceway to Hell,
Was like a slumbering bear, Hell, yawning
Received them whole, and on them closed.
Instantaneously, as if it had
Never happened, a peaceful and silent
155  Serenity had restored itself. Oh,
How all the Kingdom of Heaven rejoiced.
Azriel, exhausted and proud turned
To his precious keep, and there he rested.
No longer would he endure visions of
160  That cursed vortex of use and darkness.
The dreams of Azriel were forever
Of blissful enlightenment. His reward
From the most High, Father, Lord and Savior.
The Lord remarked, “Let it profit thee to
165  Have heard by terrible example the
Reward for disobedience; firm they
Might have stood; yet fell. Remember and fear
To transgress.
